At Half Wheel Coaching, triathlon coaching is built around a simple idea: training only works when it fits your life and when there’s real, ongoing communication between athlete and coach.
We’ve coached athletes across all distances and experience levels, from sprint-distance beginners to long-course age-group podium contenders. What consistently drives results is structured, personalized training paired with regular feedback and adaptability.
This blog outlines how our triathlon coaching works, and the two program options available - Local and Remote - depending on where and how you train.
Coaching Philosophy
Each athlete receives a individualized training plan tailored to their goals, schedule, and current fitness. Training is delivered weekly through a TrainingPeaks Premium Account, which is included with your coaching service. The plan is adjusted as needed - sometimes every day - to reflect progress, life changes, and recovery status.
TrainingPeaks keeps workout data well organized, but numbers alone don’t tell the full story. Your subjective feedback - how a workout felt, where you struggled, what surprised you - is just as important as your heart rate or power output.
That’s why ongoing communication is at the heart of Half Wheel Coaching programs.
Communication & Feedback
All athletes (local and remote) use the Half Wheel Coaching Discord server for direct messaging, group updates, private and team-wide communication.
Discord is where we stay connected, day in and day out. I check in with every athlete regularly - often daily - with a quick message before or after a key session, asking the right questions to understand how your body is responding. This helps me adjust your training in real time and support your progress more effectively.
This style of coaching isn’t limited by package or tier - it’s just how I work.
Coaching Options
To keep things simple, triathlon coaching is offered in two formats: LOCAL & REMOTE. The cost of either service is determined by a sliding scale to ensure that Half Wheel Coaching can fit into your budget. We recommend $125-450/month and provide further incentive for quarterly, semi-annual, and annual payments made in advance.
🏠 Local Athlete Coaching
For athletes in the local area looking for in-person coaching support and weekly group training opportunities.
Includes:
- Custom weekly training plan via TrainingPeaks Premium
- Weekly training updates and adjustments
- 2 x 30-minute coaching sessions/month (virtual)
- Weekly in-person group swim session
- Weekly in-person group run session
- Weekly virtual group ride on Zwift
- Daily communication via Discord
- Race planning and support for local events (as available)
Best for: Athletes who want in-person interaction, technique feedback, and the accountability of training with others locally.
🌐 Remote Athlete Coaching
For athletes outside the local area who want structured training, expert guidance, and frequent virtual communication.
Includes:
- Custom weekly training plan via TrainingPeaks
- Weekly training updates and adjustments
- 2 x 30-minute virtual coaching sessions/month
- Weekly virtual group ride on Zwift
- Daily communication via Discord
- Race planning and post-race analysis
Best for: Independent athletes who want high-touch coaching without the need for in-person sessions.
Add-On Services
Available to both Local and Remote athletes:
- 1:1 technique session (virtual or in-person) – $100
- Nutrition coaching – through partnered providers (pricing varies)
